Proposed development
The proposed development comprises fabric upgrade works to an existing school building constructed in the 1980s, as part of the Department of Education Pathfinder 25 fabric upgrade programme for schools in County Wexford. The works consist of the removal and replacement of existing external wall finishes and the installation of an externally fixed insulation and render system to improve the thermal performance and U-value of the existing external walls, as indicated on the accompanying drawings. At upper wall level, the existing hardwood cladding and associated timber battens are to be removed and an external wall insulation and render system is to be mechanically fixed directly to the existing structural blockwork. The proposed rendered finish is a neutral white/beige colour, subject to final confirmation by the project architect. At lower wall level, an external wall insulation and render system is to be fixed to the existing brick outer leaf. The proposed rendered finish is darker in colour reflecting the existing base condition of the buildings subject to final confirmation by the project architect. The proposed works do not involve any increase in building height, do not alter the footprint or massing of the buildings and do not involve the creation or alteration of any external openings. The external wall insulation system will not encroach beyond the existing aluminium cill level or roof plane, as shown on the accompanying drawings. The works constitute repair, maintenance and improvement of the external fabric of the existing buildings and do not materially alter the external appearance or character of the structures.
What happens next
