Permission for development which consists of: The development will consist of the following: Permission is sought for development of a new Future living Laboratory Building of circa 3,975 sqm. The building is located to the east of the campus addressing the Ballybane Road. The building comprises three floors and part lower ground floor of educational accommodation incorporating; classrooms, seminar rooms, academic lecture theatres, social networking spaces and ancillary support spaces. A new landscape area to the perimeter of the building allows for new direct pedestrian access to the Ballybane road. The Living Laboratory shall be connected to the existing building by a number of bridges at first floor level. The proposed works included a new road table and pedestrian access to the existing entrance roadway. In addition, alterations are proposed to the existing northern car park, an existing single storey modular building located to the north west of the site will be removed and the current layout of car parking spaces reconfigured to accommodate the alteration / relocation of the existing car park spaces from the area of the Living Laboratory building. This will include standard car park spaces, DAC Spaces, set-down area and provision of additional bicycle parking. The project includes; back-lit signage and site signage, photovoltaic panels, site lighting and all ancillary site works.

What happens next

Permission was granted on 24 Mar 2026. Third parties may appeal within four weeks; after that the permission is final and works can start once a commencement notice is lodged.
